Sucuraj is a little town that was built on the eastern part of Hvar island. The population of Sucuraj that counts around 400 inhabitants, mostly works in fishing and tourist industries. Sucuraj is among the hottest places on the Hvar island, receiving more that 2700 sunshine hours every year. There are two sunny beaches in the town - the sand-bedded Cesminica in the south and pebble Bilina in the north.

Sucuraj has been known for more than 2300 years and through the course of history, it has been sacked and rebuilt plenty of times. The first people who populated Sucuraj were the Illyrians, since their queen Teuta found the place around 300 BC. In the 7th to 8th centuries the Croats have colonized Sucuraj and the today the town is under the Croatian rule as well. However, through the course of history, the town of Sucuraj has changed its patrons several times. Amongst them were Illyrians, Romans, Venice, French, Italians, Austrians and of course Croats. In the 20th century alone Sucuraj changed its allegiance 6 times.

Sucuraj owns an impressive fishing fleet that sells its catch to many restaurants in Croatia and in the European community; the town is also known for producing marvelous wines and olive oil. You can come to Sucuraj with ferry boats from Drvenik. The transportation takes no more than twenty-five minutes. Summer days offer around ten to fifteen ferry trips a day, while in the winter the amount goes down to three or four a day. Drvenik is located 128 km northwest of Dubrovnik and 96 km southeast of Split, on the Adriatic road.
